TREATMENT PROCESS
What to Expect
-
Experiences with acupuncture and it's adjunctive therapies tend to vary for each individual. Some people have immediate results, such as instantaneous relief from pain conditions. Others may not notice any real differences during their first few visits. If no significant changes occur at first, it is important not to give up just yet. The therapeutic results of acupuncture are cumulative, therefore each additional treatment you receive leads to an increase in its overall effects.
-
Like all patterns generated by repetition, our bodies and minds have created patterns over the years that they tend to "default" back to. The goal with acupuncture is to interrupt these cycles by coaxing them into healthier, more balanced and harmonious states. To successfully influence these patterns and lead to long-term positive changes in your condition, it is important to receive the necessary recommended number of treatments.
-
Like all medical therapies, acupuncture is not a miracle cure. Along with getting consistent treatments, it is just as important to determine what factors may be influencing your current condition. As we are dedicated to help you experience real, lasting change, we will guide you to bring awareness to various lifestyle patterns that could be holding you back from living your best life.
Number of Treatments
-
Each condition in unique, therefore the recommended number of treatments required for lasting therapeutic effects is individualized. Before deciding this, it is important that we first determine how your body responds to treatments. We do this by first treating you 1-3 times while closely monitoring any changes in your condition. We then use this information to devise a long-term plan of care, which includes the number of treatments we feel will benefit you the most.
-
In general, acute conditions such as seasonal allergies, colds, new onset of pain, acute bouts of anxiety, insomnia or high stress should be treated frequently for best results. This is especially important during the first few weeks following the onset of symptoms. Anywhere between 1 and 3 treatments in one week for several weeks or months is ideal. Although these cases tend to respond to treatment rather quickly, treatments may need to continue over a longer time period or during subsequent flare-ups.
-
Long-term, chronic conditions include chronic pain, generalized anxiety, depression, asthma, lasting insomnia and other lifelong health issues that require long-standing maintenance. These may also need to be treated frequently in the short term, especially if you are experiencing severe symptoms. We typically recommend 1-2 treatments per week for the first several weeks or months. Once symptoms have stabilized, 1 weekly, bi-weekly or monthly treatment is usually adequate. Many individuals seek steady treatment for numerous years to continuously address the underlying imbalance and keep symptoms to a minimum.
-
Acupuncture and its adjunctive techniques are also very effective for preventative care, 'tune-ups' and general stress reduction. You do not need to have any ailments, pains or health conditions to receive the wonderful benefits of these therapies. If you are simply looking to increase your energy level, boost your immune system, improve your mood and feel your very best, you have come to the right place. Of course, if you are seeking preventative care, a long-term care plan is not necessary. Single treatment sessions can be booked any time and are a great way to stay on top of your health and set yourself up for a thriving future.
